I think these photos truly illustrate why I love in-home, lifestyle newborn sessions. There is just something about capturing this precious time in a family’s life in their own home. I love the un-staged, natural feel of it, and being able to include sweet details of the nursery. I know these mommas spend many months planning, decorating, and preparing the room for their newest addition, and I think that deserves some photos too. It is also a plus to be able to include all the family members in some of the photos.
What I tell each new mother is that I will bring a few blankets and items to use, but I really love to photograph items that belong to the family- especially anything with sentimental meaning. In this session, one of the outfits baby Harrison wore was the one he came home from the hospital in, and also the outfit his older brother wore as a newborn. Baby Harrison was snuggly wrapped in a white cotton blanket in some of these photos. This blanket belonged to his great-grandmother, who could not be here to see him come into this world. This blanket allowed her presence and love to be felt in something tangible.
These are the details I love to capture. Memories in the making.
