Is it just me or do one year old birthday parties keep getting more and more extravagant? Gone are the days when you went to Party City or Dollar Tree as a one-stop shop, I suppose.  So, what should you do?  Well, I have a few ideas to help you plan and not pull your hair out!

Some oh-so-fun themes right now that would be easy to do include: Flamingos, Teepees, Mermaids, Mickey/Minnie Mouse, Monkeys, Gold & Glitter.  If you want a simple theme, I would recommend Gold & Glitter.  There is so much you could find to easily create a beautiful and fun party with this theme.

Keep in mind this is a party you will want to remember.  You will probably have many photos taken, and an invitation is another keepsake you can save! I recommend doing personalized paper invites, which you can make yourself on websites like Shutterfly.com, or better yet have it made by a local place!

Make your child feel extra special on their big day by getting them a birthday onesie or accessory!  Marley Mae makes custom onesies! My favorite idea for a little girl accessory is a colorful flower headband from Sweet Ivie, an Etsy shop that makes custom headbands, bows, and even flower crowns for little girls!

You can find so much on Etsy for birthday party decorations. I recently took photos at an adorable one-year-old boy’s teepee party. His mom said she got everything on Etsy, it all matched, was easy to assemble, and looked like a lot more work was put into it! 

Something else to not leave out: BALLOONS! I love the big balloon letters that spell out the child’s name or just the word “ONE”.  Oversized confetti balloons are awesome too!

The cake is the main event of course, especially if you are doing a cake smash!  In order to get the cutest cake and exactly what you’re looking for, find the best local cake shop or bakery.  Sweet Eats Ocala makes adorable cakes for kids and does all kinds of themes! 

In addition to a cake, cake pops are fun and easy to eat!  Littlebits Cake Pops can make anything to go along with your theme.  

One More Thing

One more thing I have to add… I hope you consider hiring a professional photographer to capture this special day and all the work you put into it!  My reasoning being that you won’t have to worry about carrying around your phone the whole time and making sure you snap a photo of every moment.  You can relax and enjoy the whole party because you have left that up to a professional 🙂
