The Benefits of Hiring a Wedding Planner

One of my biggest regrets from my own wedding is that I did not hire a wedding planner. Back then we thought “why spend more money on something you could do yourself, right”? WRONG! All of the planning fell on me and my family, which led to a lot of unneeded stress. I wish I had hired a planner to take care of things for me so that my family and I could have relaxed more throughout the wedding planning process and the wedding day. As a photographer, it makes a big difference on wedding days when there is a planner involved. A planner makes the whole day run more smoothly, on time, and more stress-free for not only the couple but also the entire vendor team.

I recently connected with a sweet planner in Central Florida named Melanie, of Melanie Paige Events + Design. I asked her a few questions about her company and wedding planning in general to get an inside look on why it’s so beneficial to have a wedding planner.  Here is a little bit about Melanie:

My name is Melanie and I am the owner and founder of Melanie Paige Events + Design. I have been planning events for over four years all over the country and I would love to be a part of your special day! With a degree in Public Relations and Event Management from High Point University as well as being a Certified Wedding Planner through The Bridal Society, I am well versed in knowledge for all events, with weddings being my main expertise. As your event planner, my goal is to bring all of your ideas and turn them into reality. Planning events is my passion and I would love to help you plan yours in a fun environment that is also stress-free. I can’t wait to chat and start bringing your event ideas to life!

What kind of planning do you offer?  I offer everything from Month Of (which is my “Day Of”) to Full Planning Packages. All of my planning packages are customizable to the needs and wants of all my couples. 

What does your company do differently than other planners?  I think what my company does differently is that not only am I a certified wedding planner, but so are all of my assistants. I think that it is very important to have assistants on a wedding day who are equally as trained as I am so that the day goes even smoother. Also, I want to make sure that the planning process is fun for my couples so that they do not get easily stressed. They are the ones that have been dreaming about their wedding day, so I want to make sure that they get what they want while planning it in a way that is stress-free.

Do you create a timeline?  I sure do! It is my life on the wedding day and leading up to it. 

What are some tasks that planners do that most people don’t realize?  Some tasks that planners do that most people do not realize is that we can also track RSVPs, create floor plans, go to alteration appointments, and even take care of a lot of behind the scenes issues on the wedding day so that the couple doesn’t have to.

How do planners help the other vendors?  We help them by making their job as easy for them on the wedding day as possible. Our goal is to make sure that not only do our couples have a stress-free day, but that our vendors do as well so that they can perform at their best level. 

Tell a story of how you fixed a big problem and reduced stress of the bride.  I had a wedding about a year ago where it was raining and we could not do the stereo for music as planned. So I asked the band if they could go full acoustic so that the bride and her bridal party could still have music to walk down to, and they said no problem!

Why do you think a planner is worth the investment?  Wedding Planners are worth it because we take care of all the little details and behind the scenes things so that our couples don’t have to. We make sure that everything is planned to the details that you wanted and if anything is wrong, we catch it before the wedding day so that it can be fixed with nothing to worry about.

Okay, I did not know wedding planners could take care of handling RSVPs (hello one of the biggest nightmares!), and go to alterations appointments. Those two things alone would have been worth it to me to hire a planner!
